Featuring a friendly community owing to its PVE community and an alternative for those left jaded by Destiny, Warframe just continues to go from strength to strength with each passing year.

A radical departure from its predecessor, TF2 dropped the serious military shooter aesthetic and went in a completely different direction. A bright and colourful team-based shooter, Team Fortress 2 offers plenty of silly fun despite being over a decade old and not the most faithfully updated game. Those who pay more will get more from the game almost no matter what, so bear that in mind before you take the big leap into competitive play. The Blizzard stamp of quality and extra attention to detail is obvious as well as a lowered skill ceiling, making it fairly approachable. Think of Hearthstone as a modern Solitaire to kill some time with rather than something that should consume your being and you will get something back from collecting cards until your eyes hurt.

A standalone story set in the Life Is Strange universe, Captain Spirit focuses on a young boy as he seeks to get away from the stresses in his life by letting his imagination run wild. It may not convert the unconverted, but for providing a full-bodied toybox to explore and bridging the gap between LiS installments, Captain Spirit deserves some space on your hard drive.

Listen, unless you have the patience to learn what many call the most densest and most confusing game ever made, you may want to survive Dwarf Fortress: a maddening hybrid of different genres that is far more complex than its basic visuals may suggest. There is no grand story or obligations apart from keeping your fortress intact as you direct dwarves towards its upkeep and also expansion. Arguably the definitive roguelike and perhaps even indie experience, Spelunky Classic paved the way for many of its peers to follow suit when it launched into cult status in A HD update came out in , but if you can deal with some more basic visuals and the less complete package, Spelunky Classic is yours for absolutely nothing.

Players are tasked with navigating underground taverns for treasure while fending off the beasties and ghoulies that lurk within. Sounds simple, but with an ever-changing layout and an oppressive difficulty that undoes all your hard work after a simple mistake, you have an addictive dungeon crawler with an iconic status that feels wholly earned.

A little bit of a cheat for our list of the best free PC games because the rest of the content past level 20 is gated off, but the Starter Edition for World of Warcraft is more than good enough if you simply want to socialise and take part in the best video game activity of them all: fishing.

The limitations with the free account are fairly numerous, though they may actually be a godsend to still allow you to see sunlight more than once every four months. Yes Download: Origin. But it truly deserves the limelight as Respawn, a studio who know how to craft an FPS with their eyes closed, delivered a game that charmed even the most jaded of battle royale veterans with innovations big and small. The pinging is inspired and the respawning mechanic far deeper for match flow than you may first realise, making Apex a game with a lot of depth beneath its simple veneer.

One quick Apex tip for new players: stick to your team, for the love of Christ. Pretty much everyone? Fair enough. It even has a small, but devoted, ongoing fan base. Fortnite is arguably the biggest game in the world thanks to Battle Royale.

As far as PC shooters go, Half-Life represents an inflection point for the entire genre, threading a nearly uninterrupted narrative through a seamless and carefully paced action spectacle.

While the gameplay itself more than holds up, the look and feel of the original leaves something to be desired. Thankfully, the team at Crowbar Collective — themselves a bunch of modders — have created Black Mesa. Whether you want to play the classic version or the updated Black Mesa is up to you, but every PC enthusiast should at least try one or the other at least once.

The game, which began as a Kickstarter campaign, has been released episodically over the past seven years. Cardboard Computer has also released a series of experiences it calls interludes , which are freely available online. The game offers a less traditional leveling-up system, in which players need to use items to increase their affinity with a particular stat. If you want to increase your blocking stat, then you will have to block attacks, or even punches from friends, in order to increase the efficiency of your shield blocking.

Players can also increase their health and stamina stats using food items or potions. I mostly spent time cooking and foraging for food, not interested in engaging in combat unless absolutely necessary. If anything, Valheim managed to scratch the itch for me that titles like Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley could otherwise no longer reach.

While my friends fought packs of wolves and found krakens swimming between vast expanses of ocean, I practiced animal husbandry and farming. Oceans and rivers look lovely, while even the dreariest of environments somehow stand out.

Particle effects bloom and blossom in snowy locales, with dense fog sometimes permeating endless meadows of yellowing grass.

It made me stop and appreciate the environmental design and procedurally generated scenery. This approach also allows for those even with fairly low-end machines to run the game.

Outside of the world actively fighting back against your intrusion and destruction, you can see the environment begin to change due to your work. This is in itself a depiction of colonialism and environmental degradation as you pillage a continent unknown to you for valuable materials to move elsewhere and do the exact same thing over and over again, until there is nothing left.

Before Minecraft was the cultural force it is today, it was a survival game. Minecraft drops players on a procedurally generated map eight times larger than the surface of the Earth. Just like an old-fashioned murder story, Return of the Obra Dinn poses a complex mystery, layered with personalities, motives, secrets, and lies. But it supercharges whodunit conventions by infusing misdirection into every nook and cranny of its intricate, gorgeous murder scenes.

The story is set aboard an earlyth-century merchant ship that shows up in port five years after it was reported missing, presumed lost at sea. The ship is bereft of human life. My job is to board the ship and figure out what happened. Skeletons, exploded cannons, and destroyed rigging all add up to As the player, you inhabit an insurance adjuster from the Age of Sail who gains limited control over time and space.

The game demands attention to detail and cleverness on the part of the player to get to the bottom of what happened to each character, while delighting them at every turn with a story and design that gradually reveals itself with surprising bursts of sound and violence.

Supergiant Games expects the player to fail during most runs of Hades. This science fiction fantasy shooter blends third-person action and Vanquish -style acrobatics with tried-and-true MMO systems to create a vibrant community of players. Luckily, my Warframe gets me through the conflict, and I am aided by the benevolent Lotus. Confused at all the proper nouns?

Most of it is pretty standard sci-fi stuff — an ancient empire crumbled, the factions of that empire are now at war, and I am a powerful card put into play.

What that effectively means is that I unlock a host of missions with variable objectives and I get to jump around and be a ninja. Movement is fast, fluid, and beautifully lethal. Melee attacks are accompanied with a satisfying sound effect and bright flash, along with a snappy animation. Get it here: Digital Extremes Steam. Years after its release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still stands as a towering achievement in modern video game design.

But where The Witcher 3 truly shines on PC is in providing a glorious spectacle for the eyes. Among Us is as welcoming as it is ubiquitous. Meanwhile, the impostors attempt to kill everyone else on the ship, without exposing their own identities. One sedate one, one normal one and one extreme one for people that don't have ANY sense at all with loop da loops and degree turns along the track. Last edited: Jul 15, Do you have a YAW then? Nope, not yet. Am getting one either late this year or early next year. Will be getting people on the Yaw VR Discord to test it all out for me in the meantime. I was also planning on having the player shooting targets as they go around to change the course of the roller coaster but I don't think the spud powering the Quest will be able to handle that. I'm also planning on having a few hundred trees in the jungle too for both versions but I'll have to see how things go.

Last edited: Aug 17, MikeKay Distinguished Member. Will this be free or paid? If free then cool. If paid personally I think you need more than just a rollercoaster.

No Limits 2 has just coaster rides wrapped up imo. The quest is low powered but has still shown to be capable of some good feats. Imo you could check up the arcade games railchase and rail chase 2. Both emulated on PC.

It's going to be free I was planning on having shooting elements in it but I don't think the Quest will be able to handle it. I'm planning on having three different levels to play: 1 Moderate - high climbs, low drops and turns of varying degrees. I'm going to hopefully have it all set in a jungle with hundreds of trees and have a cavern system underground too. I was considering having part of it in an underwater glass tunnel with a Loch Ness Monster type dinosaur too but, again, the Quest hardware will make that too difficult if not impossible to do.

And of course all of this will be Yaw VR motion simulator compatible too. Woo hoo!!! My glasses are ready, should speed up development, I've been trouble seeing things clearly on my telly. Had to keep on getting up and having a closer look at stuff. Woooooo hooooooooo!!! But then bloody Adobe bought the company and stopped these Maintenance payments so you have to pay a fortune to subscribe, so I just didn't bother and was using an old version of Substance Painter.

With this Indie Pack subscription at a cut price I've now updated to the latest version of Substance Designer, the BEST app out of the lot of them that I haven't used for four or five years. Why not..? So why am I posting about all this..? I decided to have a look at the latest version of Substance Designer and work through a tutorial just to see if much had changed.
